Math Is Elementary Tutoring

Hi! My name is Jenn O’Connell, and I’m an experienced elementary educator who loves helping kids feel confident and successful in school. I have nearly two decades of teaching and special education experience, working with students in grades K–6 with a wide range of learning styles, strengths, and needs.

I specialize in:

• Reading and writing support (decoding, fluency, comprehension, written responses)

• Math skills (fact fluency, problem solving, number sense)

• Executive functioning (organization, following directions, planning, and study skills)

• Support for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and diverse learning needs

My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and structured. I use clear, step-by-step instruction, hands-on activities, and positive reinforcement so students feel safe to take risks and proud of their progress. I also focus on social-emotional learning—helping children manage frustration, build resilience, and develop a growth mindset.

I work closely with families and, when helpful, with classroom teachers to align tutoring with what students are doing in school. I use data (classwork, assessments, and observations) to target specific skill gaps and to celebrate growth over time.
