History, Government, & Politics
About
I am graduate student in history at Tufts University. I specialize in American history/government/politics. My main focus for my MA program is in the Cold War. I enjoy teaching and have significant experience as a Teachers Assistant (TA) and coaching (hockey). I adapt to every student's individual needs. I will also help with your writing because I being able to communicate is extremely important. In 2018, I was recognized as an outstanding young alumnus at my undergraduate university (Miami University-Ohio).
Too many history teachers get bogged down in dates, minute details, and are boring. My goal is to see my students improve and to make history fun and enjoyable for them.
If you're interested in tutoring, please let me know what area you would like to focus on and I can put together a lesson plan.
My favorite part of teaching is watching students grow and develop. I enjoy the mentoring aspect just as much as teaching. I am very passionate about what I do.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first get to know my students. I like to know their interests, hobbies, etc. I also want to know their goals with tutoring and how much prior knowledge they may or may not have. This helps me relate to them and establishes a comfortable learning environment. I also use this informatiuon as "data" that I then use in creating a lesson plan. Thus, the first session is a basic "get to know you" as well as a light introduction of the subject.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching for about seven years. My undergraduate degree was in Sports Management with an emphasis on coaching, which translates well into the classroom. I coached hockey exclusively for about five years and then began teaching and coaching. I have also been a Teacher's Assistant (TA) at Tufts during my MA program.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $60/hour for an online session. If it is in-person, I charge $70 for travel time.
How did you get started teaching?
I love teaching and I am very passionate about it. I believe that teachers have an enormous influence on children and that we can use that influence in a positive way to help children develop intellectually and emotionally.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of students ranging including those with Asperger's and severe learning/communication disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently received funding to do research in Mexico City! It was awesome!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think it is important to make sure that you are going to receive a consistent tutor who is going to strive for improvement during every session. In my specific area of focus, you need a teacher who is going to tailor the subject matter to the student to make it interesting for them. Too many history teachers get bogged down in dates, minute details, or are just boring, and this can really make it difficult for the students not only to improve but enjoy history.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I would see what they are going to teach and then how they are going to teach it. You are most likely going to want a teacher who is energetic, knowledgeable, and cares about seeing their students improve.
