Together Tutoring Company
About
I am a tutor with an enthusiasm for teaching and interactive learning. I believe students do their best when they have confidence instilled in them by their teachers, friends, and loved ones. As a tutor with 2 years experience as a classroom teacher, and over four years experience assisting students through tutoring in a variety of settings, I believe the best teacher is the one who listens and allows the student to be the teacher. I will talk with your student about the things they enjoy and ask what their experience has been like with education. I believe every student is important and has a voice, and as teacher-tutor, I walk away having learned from my students each time. I'm excited to build young leaders.
I offer over four years of experience assisting students from Pre-K-8th grade in earth science, math, English, reading, writing, grammar, and other areas within English. I have helped students write strong essays and research projects in social science, surrounding the TransAtlantic Slave Trade and the ethics of war. I have over 3 years experience working with students with special needs, and as someone who has actively had to work through having dyslexia, I am well prepared to assist your student, regardless of ability. I look forward to hearing from you!

I enjoy the long process of crafting excellence in studies. Seeing students grow over time in an area they may have struggled with in the past and learning to love that subject is one of the great joys of my career.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have a friendly conversation with my students. I ask about their lives and what they enjoy doing for fun. I go over the subjects we are working through and ask them pointed questions to assess their appropriate level. I further assess them by doing a short lesson and asking them to respond. I rate their response and prior knowledge, in order to evaluate their skills and experience. At the end of a first session, I ask the student what they think about the subject they are studying. We go over famous contributors to the field and the gift and beauty the given topic is. I conlude by saying how much I'm looking forward to working and learning with the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a BA in Sociology student at Bunker Hill Community College.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40 per hour for tutoring sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I started my career in high school, by tutoring a 7th grade girl. I began tutoring part-time in 2017 at a nonprofit in Washington, DC. In 2018, I began substitute teaching at a local private school, which led to my current role as a teaching associate.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with diverse populations of students from lower to higher-income communities as well as with students with diverse special needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently transitioned to online teaching, as did most teachers in Massachusetts. I was happy to have education continue and thrive among my students even during a global pandemic. I was proud to see my Pre-K students virtually graduate this year.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who is interested in a learning exchange with you! I am always learning new things from my students and it is important that I show myself to be a dynamic learner and teacher. At all costs, find someone who is driven by learning.
