Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With a new student, I try to figure out their basics. To me, having a good basic about finance and accounting means that half of the job is done. The rest is mere interest and fun. I also follow a well-organized custom plan, designed to meet the goal of the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a PhD in Finance and an MBA in Finance from City University. I am certified in teaching and learning strategies in higher education from Harvard University.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, my standard pricing is $35-$40 per hour for college level and $25/hour for high school.
How did you get started teaching?
Teaching is my passion and I love to teach. I started teaching when I was in high school.
What types of students have you worked with?
Most of my students are college students with a business background e.g., major or minor in Finance and/or Accounting. I also teach nursing students who require Finance or Accounting as a part of their studies. To me, all students are unique. From goal-oriented to just-curious students, I taught different kinds, and have learned a lot from them as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A student with a Marketing major had just over a month time for the semester final and had been struggling with the Finance course (minor). Our sessions of working together went well-organized and fun. A month later, I got an email from my student saying ....."I think my greatest achievement is not that I have passed the course, it is that I have started to find great interest in Finance, a subject which I thought was so challenging before. Thank you!”.
I could imagine my student's face, with a big smile, contented and confident. To me, that’s all that matters
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student needs to be comfortable with the tutor in communicating and discussing all relevant problems.
Tips: Organize yourself first! Figure out what you need, why you need that and where you stand now.
