About

As a Dartmouth grad and Fulbright scholar I have honed my craft and enjoy sharing the tools and tricks that make writing a joy.

I love sharing my zest for the written word with students, especially those who find it a difficult subject. My approach is first to make it fun, then to help students develop the skills and structure to thrive.

I customize my tutoring to each students needs. Need a fresh set of eyes on that college essay? I'm here! Struggling to write that five paragraph essay? Look no further. Whatever the task, we can conquer it together.

Frequently asked questions

First, I like to talk through which aspects of writing students enjoy and which ones they find difficult. If I can help them find the fun and joy of writing creatively, this makes other types of writing easier, such as college essays and applications. I like to start with exercises that build confidence. From there it's about pinpointing what needs help in their work and guiding them to a point where they can fix their own errors and create with ease.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in English from Dartmouth College as well as a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from Dartmouth College and a Master's Degree in British and American Literature from the University College Cork (Ireland). As a Fulbright Scholar, I conducted research on the intersections of popular culture and music.

I tutor on an hour or half-hour timescale. My rate is $60 per hour, $30 per half hour.

I tend to work with students who don't feel like writing is their "thing." Because they don't have a lot of experience, they tend to get bogged down with big ideas and sprawling sentences. I try to help students get down to the basic ideas and then work towards a creative, cohesive end product.

I helped a student who was struggling to articulate her passions in her college essay. She was writing about her experiences at summer camp, but found she had so much to say that she couldn't focus on one aspect in particular. We went through her draft together and I noticed she seemed most enthusiastic about rock climbing. I asked her to expand on what this activity meant to her. We trimmed certain parts of the essay and connected rock climbing to the overall theme of nature, resulting in a wonderful essay and a confident student.
