Qualified Tutoring

Hi,

My name is Mary Guidry. I have taught ELA, and English I, II, III, IV in the following parishes: Vermilion, Iberia, Acadia, and Lafayette until my retirement after 25 years. I love each and every student I have taught. My teaching motto is "Have fun while learning!" I do not like the Common Core curriculum because it took the fun out of teaching, but I will teach it if necessary. My main goal is for my students to understand what they are doing. That is a teacher's job!

I love English from Romeo and Juliet to Hamlet. I do teach a bit differently. Just some of my lessons have included groups of students writing their own myth then acting it out, we have put Hamlet on trial to determine if he was sane, reading and writing their own poetry. I love poetry, so we try to cover all styles. If my students are bored with my lesson, I will change it. We have compiled portfolios of their writing which many students still have today. Finally, at years end, I have each student choose and type 3 of his/her poems to include in a class book. The title is voted on, and the cover illustration, by a classmate, is also voted on. These are just a few examples. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have fun while learning!
