Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I believe that I should get the know the student before teaching them. I may spend 15 to 20 minutes in the first sessions asking about their time at school. Then, we will start on some example problems so that I can pin-point their weakness(es). Finally, I will create and deploy a learning plan that should assist them with their academic endeavors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is 20$ an hour. I believe learning should be accessible. No hidden fees or upfront payments.
How did you get started teaching?
Growing up, and being the oldest of 4 siblings, I have always helped them with various school subjects.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have primarily worked with younger, but I know that I'm capable of assisting any person of any age.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Go with your heart. Don't be intimidated and go in willing to learn. Do not be afraid to correct you’re teacher if you feel something is wrong, and don't hesitant to get another if you don't feel comfortable. In order to learn, you need to feel safe, comfortable and relaxed in your learning environment.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What unit are you specifically struggling in? If you're struggling in all of them, start with the easiest and make your way through going based on difficulty level. 9/10, once you understand the basics you'll understand the more complex topics better.
Are you comfortable asking questions during class time? If not, when would you feel comfortable asking for assistance?
