About
I am a 5th grade teacher with a Master’s degree in education. I have been teaching for 8 years now (7of those in 5th grade and 1 in 3rd grade). I love math and look at problem solving as a big puzzle in which you have to fit the pieces together to make a picture.
I love to see students finally connect the dots and understand the material that they are trying to learn. It is an amazing feeling to know that you have helped that student achieve something that was difficult to them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When starting with a new student I like to get to know the dynamics of that students specifically. I'll start by asking questions and getting to know the student on a personal level. This helps me understand a little more why they may be struggling in a specific area. Understanding any underlying issues is a great place to start to build. Having a solid foundation is needed to be able to move forward in the academic process.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching because I valued the teachers that I had as a student. I remember specific instances of struggle as a student and being able to see the effort that many of my teachers put into my education was a great value to me. I want to get back to students just like my previous teachers gave to me.
What types of students have you worked with?
I am a 5th grade teacher with a Master’s degree in education. I have been teaching for 8 years now (7of those in 5th grade and 1 in 3rd grade). I taught the first five years of my career in a private school and have spent the last three years in a public school setting.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am currently enjoying being outside and active with my five-year-old daughter. We like to ride our bikes, go hiking, and camping.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The best advice I can give would be to find someone that you can connect with and have fun with. I think education that should be a fun experience and there should be some level of enjoyment to everything you do.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
When asking a teacher a question, make sure that you are being specific about your misunderstandings. Vague questions like: "I don't get it" or "I don't understand" are hard for us teachers to pinpoint the root of the problem. When questions are as specific as possible or examples can be given this makes identifying the problem and teacher assistance much easier.
