About

I graduated cum laude from the University of Kentucky where I double majored in Secondary Education (Social Studies focus) and Anthropology while minoring in history. I love teaching and helping others understand the subject matter- seeing the material click in a student’s head is one of the main reasons I chose education as a career path. I have been working with children and in the education field since high school when my very first job was tutoring children k-8th after school. Since then I have worked as a preschool teacher, a new hire trainer, a summer camp counselor, and a nanny to name a few. I am no stranger to hard work and what it takes to be successful in learning and teaching people ranging from young children to adults.

My pedagogy reflects my strongly held beliefs in the importance of having a growth mindset in all aspects of life as well as using trauma-informed teaching practices. Learning is not one-size fits all, students need to be met where they are at rather than expected to fit a specific mold that education often demands. Everybody has a different learning style and as educators it is important to cater to these needs while also expanding the students’ abilities in other areas, helping them become the best well rounded students they can be.

    Frequently asked questions

When working with new students I like to chat with them to gain a better understanding of what they perceive their strengths and weaknesses in school to be. I also like to learn about their favorite extracurriculars, hobbies, etc. as these can offer a holistic view of the student’s learning style.

I graduated cum laude from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Education where I double majored in Secondary Education and Anthropology while minoring in history.

I discovered that I liked teaching when my twin brother and I started middle school and it quickly became apparent that I was having an easier time adjusting while he struggled. We were on the same “team” in our grade so I became his homework buddy and de facto tutor because we had the same homework. It was eye opening because it helped me realize that I learn well through teaching and I could help other people at the same time. Since then I have worked as a tutor in an afterschool care program, have been a summer camp counselor, a new hire trainer, and I now have my bachelors in education! I plan to attend grad school to get my MAT and become a high school history teacher!
