About
My favorite subjects are the life sciences like biology and chemistry. I have been teaching in the classroom setting at since 2011 and in our home school since 2001. I have a degree in Biology, a degree in Health Sciences, and a doctorate but my heart has always been in teaching. My specialty is breaking down science into understandable blocks with a multi-sensory hands-on approach that is well suited for all learning styles, including dyslexics.
If I can spark the love of science in one child every year, I feel like I've made a difference!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to assess each child's strengths and weaknesses and focus on teaching to the strenghts. Not everyone learns from reading a textbook so it helps to figure out their interests and which formats work best for each child.

How did you get started teaching?
I started home schooling in 2001. In 2011, we joined a home school support group (co-op) and I started teaching in the classroom setting. I would alternate teaching biology, chemistry and physics yearly with one-on-one tutoring as needed.
What types of students have you worked with?
My favorite thing as a teacher is unlocking the creativity and intellect of kids, especially the often misunderstood dyslexic child.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Lots of people can teach science. How many people get excited by it? I've had parents thank me because my enthusiasm for the subjects couldn't help but rub off on the kids.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is it just a few areas or the whole subject that you need help in? Do you have a preferred learning style?
