My name is Valerie and I am looking forward to working with students in my area or online. I am a college student majoring in political science and public policy who graduated high school with an A average and over 30 hours of college credit from AP exams.
My specialties are in the social sciences and writing. I scored a 5 on the following AP exams: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, US History, World History, Environmental Science, and Human Geography. I am capable of essay revision, editing, writing, and drafting and have experience in all forms of writing. My experiences with college application writing is vast and I have taken multiple college level writing courses.
When I was in high school, I wished I had someone to help me better my skills and grow as a student. I love helping students who are ready to improve or those who need a little more motivation.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
As a tutor, my main goal is to set healthy work habits. For me, this means correcting mistakes as they happen and learning from those mistakes. For this reason, we will begin with the weakest areas and build strong reinforcement of skills upon which the student can further grow. By learning a variety of skills to improve studying and working, the student will be able to apply the knowledge to other courses and material.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge flat rates of 8$/half hour or $15/hour.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from many backgrounds, including those with almost no background in a subject.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you are looking to hire a tutor in the social sciences or writing, definetly go for someone with experience. I have taken AP Human Geography, AP World History, and AP US History, scoring a 5 on all three. Additionally, I have completed several college level writing courses and am experienced working with both MLA and APA, as well as a variety of other formats.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The main areas in which the student is struggling are a great place to start! It is always helpful to understand the points of confusion. From there, I am able to provide clarification and explanation.
