About

I began my freelance business in 2014 and have taught Spanish for Professionals as well as bilingual ESOL and U.S. Citizenship classes. I serve extensively as a Spanish-English interpreter in medical, mental health, and immigration settings, and my written translation work spans coast to coast. I hold an MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and undergraduate degrees in International Business, Spanish, Russian, and Economics. My intrigue with the Spanish-speaking world has taken me on several unique and eye-opening adventures. I teach my students that learning another language helps you to explore the world in more depth and opens the door to new relationships, experiences, and opportunities. I encourage my students to immerse themselves in the new language and culture daily, set apprehension aside, and begin speaking from day one.

It was an amazing experience Our profesora Michelle let us be involved in choosing what we want to focus on learning. During the week she sent out emails reminding us to study and content to focus on and to prepare for the next class.

Michelle Sabalas Spanish distance learning class was a great introduction class for me. It was very informative and I like that our class was very interactive in learning. Michelle packed in as much information as possible, to which I am grateful. Michelles mantra, Just open your mouth and speak definitely helped me get over the fear of speaking & reading Spanish outloud, even if i wasnt 100% correct. I will continue my basic studies in learning Spanish & I for sure look forwad to Opening my mouth in Michelles Conversational Spanish Group, ¡muy pronto! 😁

I have been teaching myself Spanish for the last 3 years. I was feeling I was stuck and not advancing. Michelle came along side me and unstuck me! She explains grammar well and follows up lessons with other resources where there have been questions. I would highly recommend her for your Spanish journey.

    Frequently asked questions

For each new student, I always make a thorough  assessment of his or her needs: Why do you want to learn Spanish? What do you hope to get out of this course or session? What is your current level of Spanish? Have you taken Spanish before? Do you want to focus on conversation? Grammar? Reading? Listening? I personalize my teaching to meet their goals, and make periodic checks during the teaching to ensure those goals are being met.

I have been teaching Spanish (and ESOL to Spanish speakers) for nearly a decade, both in a traditional classroom and online. I have lived and worked in Spanish speaking countries, studied Spanish for many years, and live, breathe, and eat all things Spanish!
