About
The most important aspect of tutoring at DifferentMindsDifferentMethods is creating a safe space for kids to be vulnerable and willing to work on skills that are tough for them. Finding creative and fun ways to make concepts stick, while teaching an explicit and structured program that is individualized for each learning style, is an important part of each session.
I have a dyslexic son and learning to read was very slow, challenging, and frustrating for him. His tutor worked wonders. She encouraged me to get trained to become a literacy intervention specialist. Being able to take what I learned through supporting him and create an atmosphere that is custom fit to each individual student is such a joy!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If a student is able to read somewhat I will do a quick assessment to figure out what we need to work on and where to start. If they are beginners, I jump right in to the beginning of the curriculum. The first lesson will be a chance to get to know each other and get used to the rhythm of the lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in elementary education and I have been trained by a foundation that specializes in the Orton-Gillingham method for teaching reading. I have six years of tutoring experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a single fee per month.
$160.00 per month
-Two 1/2 hour sessions per week
$240.00 per month
-Three 1/2 hour sessions per week
$280.00 per month
-Two 1 hour sessions per week
$420.00 per month
-Three 1 hour sessions per week
$0.25 per minute of driving outside of El Dorado, KS.
There will be a week off for Christmas, a week off for New Years, and one week of vacation every year. Any other sessions that are missed (by the tutor) will be reimbursed or reschedule. All months have the same price as the cost is spread throughout the year. If a payment is more that 15 days late there will be a $5.00 charge. If a payment is not paid by the end of the month, services will end until payments are caught up.
How did you get started teaching?
I love working with kids and that is why I went into elementary education. When I decided to homeschool, I could teach everything in a fun and individualized way while putting a positive relationship first. I bring all my experience homeschooling my dyslexic son to my tutoring. I love what I do!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked students that are just needing some support to very profoundly dyslexic students. I have had students with ADHD and also autism.
