About
When students' eyes get bigger and say, "Now I get it!" I get so excited. We have so much fun learning math together. I try to find ways to intervene according to individual needs so students can succeed. Armed with a variety of instructional strategies, there should be one that is the right fit for each student and that's when learning takes place. It's always a pleasure to see those AHA moments from kids.
I have been working with students with special needs for more than 20 years and the students never cease to amaze me. I got certified in 2009 and co-taught with 6th-8th grade regular education teachers. Seeing them grow and progress in their own individual ways is always a pleasure. We have our ups and downs, victories and frustrations but we never fail to rise above the situation. Celebrations are always a must, even if it's just a pat on the back, a special handshake, or a momentary shaky, shaky dance. I get a warm feeling when parents look at their child with special needs with pride when I tell them his achievement for the day. I have a fun job!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, we get to know each other and establish rapport with him and his family so that we are at ease with each other. I try to establish rules and procedures to bring structure to every session. After that, I usually assess baselines-where the student is academic, where he is having difficulty, or ask what he has learned in school thus far.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have more than 20 years of teaching experience, mostly with students with special needs. I did teach kinder 1 for 4 years in the Phillippines. A few years back while in the US, I co-taught with regular 8th-grade regular education teachers in the four core subjects (Math, Science, ELA & Social Studies). Right now I am certified to teach PreK-12 Adaptive Special Education and have been co-teaching with 6th-grade math and science. I have had experience tutoring with Achievia, Sylvan and I just recently got my teaching license with Learn Reading. The company specializes in working with students with reading deficits including Dyslexia.
