About
Hello, I have now been teaching at the middle school level for 5 years. My first 2 years was as for 7th grade math and I have since been teaching science for 6th grade. Outside of my experience teaching I have tutored for going on 7 years at a wide range of age ranges from as young as 3rd grade to adults reentering education for advancement.
For me the focus is on finding the approach that works for my tutoree and as such I'm constantly looking for new approaches or new methods. The core of my instruction is based on modeling and walking through the probelm while gradually pushing my students to take over. I feel this is different than most tutoring services as they are only looking to address immediate concerns and that leaves students struggling come testing.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I need to get to know my students, their needs and how best I can relate to them. From there I come up with an approach that is unique to each student that addresses their needs in a way that works for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a Middle School teacher since 2018. During that time I have been responsible for teaching first math and now science to middle schoolers. I manage both their individual learning plans and the class wide learning plan. I often have to individualize my approach as no one learns exactly the same way.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For online tutoring my rate is $30 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
This completely depends on the age of the student. The older the student the easier it is to jump right into work as those students already know their strengths and weaknesses. With younger students often there's a getting to know them period where the work is getting done but I'm also building a relationship with them.
What types of students have you worked with?
Any and all students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
With my students it's on scale. Right now I'm teaching my students about scale. My teaching style is heavily weighted towards self discovery and geninue learning. The look on my students faces when they all started to realize just how small an atom is was priceless.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask questions and demand that your voice is heard. It's teacher's job to convey knowledge. If you're not learning they are not doing their job fully.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are you truly struggling on? What does your teacher need to do to best help you?
