Ms. Freeman's English & ESL Tutoring
About
I have been an educator for 28 years and have worked as a English and ESL classroom instructor, administrator, and as a public and School Library Media Specialist. Needless to say, I will go the extra mile to help my students achieve their academic goals. Whether the skills needed are basic or are a matter of intense research that the student must know in order to be successful, I am fully invested in their success.
I have tutored for the past eighteen years in one-on-one sessions for six week intensive study as well as year-long tutoring sessions in the pursuit of academic goals. I have worked as a tutor in district designed sessions (i.e., iReady, ACT Intensive) too. Tutoring sessions often take place in the school setting but I have also conducted sessions in the public library and in private homes.
I have a BA in English Literature & Secondary Education. An MS in Educational Leadership and an MLS in Library & Information Science. I am licensed in the states of KS and MO in English Language Arts grades 6-12, Building & District Leadership grades K-12, School Library Media Specialist PreK-12, and ESL PreK-12.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I set up a meeting to talk with the student and their parent to determine what their personal needs are and to determine our plan of action. Once we have determined what the student's needs are, we set up length and number of sessions so we can begin.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a licensed educator for the last 28 years. I have taken numerous trainings in regards to specific tutoring programs so I can implement them with efficacy.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
A 50 minute session is $35 - $50 depending on the length of the commitment and the needs of the client. When it is AP or ACT/SAT prep it is $50 per session.
How did you get started teaching?
I determined it would be a career that suited me well (I am a natural born teacher, truly), went to university, completed the program requirements, and received a BA, an MS and an MLS respectively to further develop my skills. In my personal life, I have been a Sunday School teacher, a Youth director, a Choir director, and a yoga instructor too.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught under-priveledged students for the majority of my professional career. However, I have also worked in a wealthy private school and in a school district of upper socio-economic students as well. I have taught college-level coursework in Teacher Education and have been a teacher trainer in Professional Development workshops.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am always fond of the experiences I have witnessed when the "light bulb comes on" and the student gets the concept you have been working on.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I am the type of tutor/teacher who is willing to go the extra mile to help a student no matter what their personal needs are to get them to a place of academic excellence.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Are you willing to work with me until I get the concept I am trying to learn?
Can I call you if I get stuck on a concept that is part of my homework?
Will you be kind and helpful when I feel uneasy about a new concept?
