About

I have a degree in Spanish Education and am licensed to teach Spanish grades k-12 and English grades 5-12. I have been teaching since 2009 in both public and private schools. I have also been giving private lessons for three years to both adults and children.

I love working one-on-one and in small groups because it is so much easier to personalize a subject to a student's needs, and learning also tends to be much more engaging when a relationship can be built between the teacher and student.

I am competent in G Suite (Google's tools such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Sites, etc.) and am comfortable with using technology for communication as well for the enrichment of a lesson.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to get to know the student by understanding his/her background and needs.  Here are some examples of what I would like to understand during or before a lesson:

What is the student's goal?  (Is it to practice fluency?  Raise test scores?  Increase comfort level?)

How does the student typically learn best?  (With songs or body movements?  With hearing and repeating?  With seeing words on a page?  With technology?)

What type of environment encourages learning for this student?

I also like to see samples of the student's work to understand his/her current level and to assess strengths and weaknesses.

My degree is in Spanish Education.  I spent one semester at a university in Spain and another at a university in Argentina speaking only in Spanish as part of an exchange program with my own university.

I was the exclusive recipient of a scholarship awarded to a top education major during my time in college and went on to receive the title teacher of the month during my first year of teaching.  I have been entrusted with two student teachers as well.

I have worked full time in elementary, middle, and high schools, both public and private.  I have also tutored for three years, both to children and adults, including using an online platform.  This wide range of experiences has helped me to  easily adapt and personalize lessons based on a variety of interests and needs.

I charge $25 per hour for lessons from my home and $35 per hour if I travel to another location.

I was an education major in college and received my first full-time teaching position immediately after graduation.  Since then I have been teaching in schools or, after becoming a mother, giving private lessons when not working full time.

I have worked with students of many nationalities including Americans, Turks, Argentinians, Russians, and Koreans.

I have worked with classrooms of 2nd graders, 3rd graders, and 8th-12th graders.  Withing these parameters I have taught in public and private schools as well as to a classroom of students over the internet.

Additionally, I have given private lessons to youths of all ages and to adults as well.

My husband, children and I spent the last 5 years living and working in Turkey.  It was an incredible experience, too rich to describe in just a few sentences.  In 2018 we moved back to the United States and are now reinventing our family culture in an entirely new environment.

The best teacher is typically one who has been referred by an acquaintance.  It is easiest to be more open to and trusting of someone who comes with a friend's recommendation.  If this isn't an option, looking at online reviews is also very useful.

It is important, of course, to check out a teacher's experience and credentials.  It is also good to remember that sometimes personalities mesh easily and sometimes they don't seem to mesh as automatically.  That is natural, but it is also important to work with someone with whom you feel comfortable.

Do I have a preference concerning where to meet?

Do I have a specific day and/or time at which I want to meet?

Do I have a preference about working with a male or a female?  A young teacher or an older teacher?

What am I looking for?  (Do I want to raise test scores?  Practice fluency?  Increase comfort level?)

How would I like this to happen?  (What are some of my favorite learning activities?  In what environments do I learn best?)
