About

Being successful in academics - at all grade levels - is determined by a variety of factors. There is the instruction, of course, but success lies in understanding, in the ability to do the task, and how that individual feels about the task. Honing in on HOW a child learns is key. Are they a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner? Baby steps. I find what style of learner the child is, design lessons accordingly, and help the learner find success - a little at a time. I support and enhance what is being taught in the classroom. We are a team - you, the parent(s), the teacher, and me. I hold an active master's degree in teaching, highly qualified designation, 22+ years in the classroom setting, and several years teaching at the university level where I taught teachers how to teach. Most importantly - I love my students. I celebrate their successes and find the greatest joy in sharing their journey. Join with me in helping your child learn to love learning!

Mrs. Chandler is amazing! My son started with her during summer break because we didn’t want to experience a decline in his academic gains and we also wanted someone to focus on him and re-teach some concepts he had learned in school but were not clear to him. On his first day she did an evaluation with my son and quickly found his academic gaps and worked with him during the whole summer. Mrs. Chandler is extremely organized, experienced and knowledgeable. She keeps her lessons effective, engaging and fun, and with her plan, my son catch-up on his grade level and even started learning new things for the following year. His grades had all improved a lot as his confidence and effort as well. Now, any time we see that one of our kids could use some extra help, we know who to reach out to. Our kids love to work with her, and we all got so impressed on how much they can learn in a single session with Mrs. Chandler.

Claudia Chandler is a talented and experienced teacher. My childrens grades have greatly improved under her tutelage. Not only does she explain things effectively, but she also inspires the kids to do their best work. Both of my children have been taking classes from Claudia for the past 9 months.

    My daughter loves Claudia!
Before Claudia my daughter ( Age 11 ) was failing Math and we struggled everynight with it.
Since seeing Claudia her grade has skyrocketed to a B+ and her confidence improved immensely in just a few months. In fact she is now learning concepts with Claudia before her teacher has taught them to the class! Claudia really has a way with struggling, shy kids.
I can not reccomend her highly enough. You wont be disappointed.

    Frequently asked questions

I begin tutoring sessions by administering a Learning Style Survey to determine how your child learns best. While 65% of children are visual learners, and another 5% are tactile learners, I never assume that a student will find their best success in these categories. Second, we will review the curriculum concepts that your child learned this school year, identify any gaps in mastery, and then solidify those concepts in order to prepare for the next school year. This will build confidence in his or her learning abilities moving forward, which will allow your child to approach the new school year's academic rigor with confidence.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:  I AM NOT LOCATED IN LENEXA - I AM IN SOUTHERN OLATHE. There is a glitch in the program that will not permit me to change my location.

    - Master's Degree in Teaching - licensure is active

    - 25+ years teaching in a variety of capacities, including the classroom, tutoring, and teaching at the university level in the education department (teaching teachers how to teach).

    - As a professional artist, I love to include illustrations in my teaching. From a scientific perspective, it is proven that 65% of the population are visual learners. Rather than teaching students WHAT to think, it is important to teach students HOW to think. This is accomplished through teaching visual representation, constructing mind maps, and using graphic, relational, classification, and sequential organizers.

My price is $40.00 per hour for one student. I offer small-group rates. If there is more than one child from the same school at the same grade level, the price per student is $30.00 per hour.

My dream had always been to teach. My third grade teacher is the one who inspired me - I wanted to help children feel the way she made me feel - like I was the most important person in the world.

I have worked with amazing students! Differentiation has always been key in my classroom, as it is crucial that each student finds pride in his/her success at their level of ability. I have taught students with special needs, gifted students who needed challenging academic rigor, and students who had little to no support at home. I embrace each child with all my heart. I love my students.

There is nothing that compares with the exclamation of a student when she claimed with glee that, "I've never understood math before! I totally get it now!!!"

That is my ultimate goal as a teacher!

Choose a teacher who is passionate about teaching, who has professional experience in education, and who will get to know your child's interests and passions. Choose someone who is organized and will keep you updated on your child's progress. Choose a teacher who will celebrate successes with your child - even the tiniest successes are worth celebration!

    1. How do you learn best? For example, are you a visual learner (pictures), auditory learner (hearing), or kinesthetic learner (manipulatives)?

    2. What interests you most in the world? For example, outer space,  fairy tales, dinosaurs, video games, history, animals, etc.

    3. What do you consider success in learning?

    4. Why do you believe that you struggle in learning?

    5. Describe your perfect teacher. What kind of personality does he/she have . . . funny, serious, makes learning fun . . . )?
