What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The process initially invoilves learning from the student what the learning objective is, what the timeframe for completing that objective is, what materials the student is using, and what the anticipated schedule of the tutoring sessions wil be.
After the first few meetings, I try to determine what methods are most effective with the student, and then I try to mold the sessions to best suit the student. This requires feedback from the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have graduate level academic experience, and I have many hours of experience tutoring or assistant teaching.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price is $20 for an hour session.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching as an assistant in school very early on all the way through undergraduate school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all sorts of students in varying situations from full calssrooms to individual titoring sessions. My students have included those with learning disabiities as well as students who were performing at high levels but were a year or two behind me in school at the time.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A friend and I went to see a college basketball gae last week. It was fun to get out of the house for a few hours and be in a crowd of people. I even got on TV!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure that the tutoe ha strong communication skills. It is important that they listen to you and are responsive to syour feedback.
They should demonstrate that they share in your desire to achieve the objective you're working toward.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is going well? What is not going well? How have been the most sucessful methods I've used in the past to learn. What methods have past teachers used that were successful, and which wer not as successful.
