About

I prepare for each student's lesson on an individual basis. I make an effort to research what the student needs and find materials that are appropriate for them. I use the internet and the library for suppliments. I have created many learning materials and games for students.

I enjoy seeing the success on a student's face when they are able to spell a word, read a sentence, or solve a math problem.

    Frequently asked questions

When I meet a new student, I assess their skills so I can have a baseline of where to begin with their study. I want the student to feel comfortable. I may play a game with them.

I am a retired certified elementary teacher. I graduated from Purdue University in 1981 with my BS degree. I received my Teaching Certification in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993.

I charge $35.00 per hour for elementary reading and math lessons in Warren Township of the Indianapolis area. I will travel out of the area and will charge accordingly within 20 miles up to $50.00 per hour.
I began tutoring at the Carmelite Home for Boys in Hammond, IN in 1982 when I got out of college. I then began to work on my teaching certification at Purdue. I realized it was my calling to teach. In 1989 I joined a volunteer program VESS (Volunteers for Education and Social Services). I moved to Uvalde, TX and taught Kindergarten at a school that could not afford teachers. I went on and moved to Austin, TX where I completed my teaching certification at the University of Texas.
I have worked with students in grades K-5 to help them with their reading and math skills. Many children have come to me struggling with their reading or math. I want to make them feel comfortable and begin working with them at the level they are working. Then, I want to build them up to feel confident to succeed. As the" light bulb goes on" , I see the learning transpire and the struggling begins to disappear. THAT TO ME IS WHAT TEACHING IS ALL ABOUT!!
