Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical first step is to give the student a pre assessment of some kind. It doesn't have to be long, but it will allow me to get an idea of where they are at in terms of math.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachlor's degree in Mathematics from Saint Joseph's College with a Minor degree in Secondary Education. I have held an Indiana Teacher's License for the last 10 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is $35/half hour or $60/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I've always known that I wanted to be a teacher and a coach. These have always been passions of mine. I knew going into college and a degree in Education was inevitable. Along with teaching at the middle and high school level, I currently coach Varsity Baseball, Freshman Football, 8th grade Basketball and 5th grade Basketball.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a WIDE range of students. I am currently the director of an Alternative program. We house students who have been unsuccessful in the regular classroom setting for a plethora of reasons. I've worked with students who understand math and those, more often, who struggle severely and need each step broken down to the bare bones.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would let the student know that math was not always easy for me growing up. I had to work hard to get to where I'm at. I have always had a fascination with how mathematics works. I would let the student know that I have made it a priority to learn how to educate students in different ways to come to the final solution. We will work together to find which learning style works for them. I will relate the math to their everyday lives so they can see how math works and no longer have that fear that so many students have.
