About

-Focus on preparing student for study skills and time management so that they no longer need a tutor in the future.

-Good experience working with neurodivergent people, especially with ADHD, Autism, Depression and Anxiety

-I assess my student's needs and adapt my teaching style to better fit each individual

-I focus on building a trusting relationship with my students and on uplifting them while reaffirming their academic abilities

One of my favorite moments in teaching is when my student has an "aha" moment after struggling with a concept. I love seeing everything click for them after simply explaining the material in a different way, or with a different analogy.

I also love when I can see the confidence and autonomy of my students rise throughout a semester. I often have students come to me (often with tears in their eyes) thinking they might not be cut out for college, and as we go through the semester they learn how to study and realize the capabilities they have. My focus is not strictly on teaching material, but also teaching students how to study, how to find resources, and how to formulate their own study plans so they can be successful for current and future courses.

    Frequently asked questions

Our first session will typically be a meet and greet. We will informally chat for a few minutes, they can explain what they are struggling with in class, and we can set up our schedule for days/times to meet.

At the next few sessions I like to know how they have been studying, what has worked, what hasn't work, and what their professors recommended. I like my students to come prepared with a few questions, or at least an idea of what they want to cover.

I answer questions, use practice questions, and work through homework together (if the course allows that help) or test prep.

Many of my nursing courses have incorporated teaching elements for training because nurses have to do a lot of patient education.

    I charge $25/hr

I started out being hired by my friend's mom in middle school. My friend (Izabelle) was failing math and needed help bringing her grade up so she could continue marching band. With help, she was able to bring her grade up and I continued to tutor my peers in high school and college.

I have worked with students who are neurodivergent (ADHD, autistic, dyslexic etc.) Most of my experience is with students ages 14-22, with a heavy focus in science.

My most recent student was struggling in trignonometry and was very anxious about an upcoming exam. He was completely convinced he would fail the exam, so we had an extra meeting for test prep. We did 3 practice questions, stopped to take a few deep breaths, and then he left the tutoring session much calmer and confident. It was amazing how his mood had changed with only 20 minutes of tutoring and reassurance. It was like he was an entirely different person, the change was so drastic. He texted me later and let me know he got a 98% on the exam

For nursing specifically, I would highly recommend finding someone who is actually studying nursing, or is currently a nurse.

For nursing and other science-related courses, I would say to look for a teacher who teaches study habits, rather than just going over material. Study habits will help you become a better student and save you money down the road.

It's helpful to make a list and write out everything you've tried for studying already, and what has or hasn't worked.

We will discuss study environment needs and current habits at our first session, so there's not much to prepare for ahead of time.
