Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Speaking to the student and parent during our initial meeting and setting goals together is important to the success of our sessions. I also like to meet together as a team regularly to check-in, manage goals, and to share progress. I like to work with a variety of materials and in some situations like to also include writing and gameology into our sessions. I feel that finding ways to help students enjoy tutoring and to feel a responsibility for their own success are critical to a good relationship between student and tutor.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BS degree from Butler University in Elementary Education, many hours of professional development in reading, writing and language development. I am trained in International Baccalaureate and have 10 years experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate, international school. I have also trained and taught under the MIT-JWEL School of Compassionate Systems Thinking. Enrichment and tutoring reading groups are a part of my regular teaching environment.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
