About
Do you feel that your student has struggled in school since the pandemic? As a licensed Indiana teacher with experience teaching from Pre-K all the way through high school, I know first-hand how hard the pandemic has impacted learning.
To bridge that gap, I can provide remediation, homework help, and test preparation for most core high school subjects, including mathematics up through calculus, physics, economics or other social studies, English, and Latin. I also provide essay coaching for class or for college applications.
With younger students, I can also help with phonics-based reading, writing, or mathematics.
I am a life-long resident of Carmel and have taught in both Carmel and Westfield schools. I was a top scholar at Carmel high school, graduated summa cum laude from the highly-selective Case Western Reserve University, and have completed graduate coursework in education at Indiana University. Though I was an excellent student, I know that many need extra help. I can provide it.
I have special experience working with students learning English as a new language or students with severe anxiety, and love helping that group excel most of all.
I prefer a "back to the basics" education approach that puts literacy, numeracy, and the pursuit of knowledge first. Nothing fills me with greater gratitude than having the opportunity to help students reach their potential.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am very flexible. Send me a call (317-840-0668) or message ([email protected]) and we can arrange a consultation to determine student needs, goals, and timelines.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a licensed Indiana teacher. I graduated summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve University with a degree in economics and have completed further graduate coursework in education at Indiana University.
I have worked in education for five years, including in Carmel and Westfield schools. I even taught abroad in Japan for two years, working with students at all age levels from pre-K to high school.
How did you get started teaching?
After graduating from university, I took at leap of faith across the world into an English teaching job in a rural Japanese village. I found I loved working with students and, on returning to the US, went back to school for a teaching license.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, but am licensed for secondary education (middle and high school).
I have special experience working with students learning English as a new language. My experience in Japan taught me how to cross the language barrier to reach students even with zero prior English study. Back in the US, I have continued to work as an English langauge teacher in public schools.
I also work well with students with anxiety because I know how it feels! When I was young, I had extreme social and performance anxiety which took tremendous effort to overcome. Today, one of my greatest prides is that I beat my anxiety to become a teacher.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A student that I have worked with since he was in 6th grade just graduated from middle school, taking straight A's through all of his core subjects each year!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It might be tempting to use a large tutoring company found just on the first page of Google, but a private tutor can often provide a better service at a lower price because they don't need to support an entire corporate superstructure. Further, the private tutor can be so much more flexible, working across subjects without falling into a fixed standardized curriculum like those used at many large companies
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
When thinking about what challenges you, be specific! Don't sell yourself short by being too broad because you often know more about a subject than you think!
