Indy Reading Tutor

I am passionate about helping children and adults learn to read. I have a BA in English and over 10 years of experience as a reading tutor. I hold certifications as an IDOE Reading Specialist, Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher, and Reading Interventionist. I work extensively with students identified as “at risk” for reading failure or identified with a specific learning disability, such as dyslexia.

I use a systematic and explicit approach when teaching the major components of reading, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, vocabulary, fluency, and language comprehension. I am certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach and experienced using the Barton Reading and Spelling System and the Logic of English Foundations and Essentials Curriculum.

I cheer on my students' progress with positive encouragement and corrective feedback. I also provide them with ample opportunities to practice their reading skills with hands-on activities.

There is nothing like watching a student's face light up when he/she learns a new skill. It is so exciting and powerful! Helping my students reach these "ah-ha" moments is what drives me. My goal is to help all of my students develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their overall academic growth and success.
