I love teaching/tutoring reading and writing to all ages. My teaching career was highly successful. The tutoring I now do has been equally successful. One key to good teaching is providing solid knowledge, motivation, and practice mixed with laughter and fun.
I enjoy increasing a student's confidence by showing him he is capable of more than he thought! This is my specialty.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to interview the student before we start the learning process to get an idea of what he or she needs. For example, if the general need is writing help, I need to know if the student is having a hard time with developing a thesis, creating concrete examples, staying on topic, and so on. I also need to know how the student learns best.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with a degree in English, secondary teaching and journalism. I did my student teaching at Naperville North. I have 35 years teaching experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I prefer to offer an hour and a half of tutoring for $30. Fees may be negotiable.
How did you get started teaching?
I cannot remember a time when I did not want to be a teacher. Since I was a teenager, teaching just came natural to me.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have tutored 10-11 year olds, high school students as well as college students. My teaching career was with high school students from the academically challenged to advanced placement.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Last year I enjoyed working with 10 and 11 year olds, teaching them speech and reading. They were quite enthusiastic because they liked my methods.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A student needs a teacher with years of experience, enthusiasm, patience, and deep knowledge of the subject matter. Also, if the teacher cannot motivate and challenge the student, maximum learning will not take place.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
These questions are crucial: Specifically, what do I need to learn, how do I need to learn it, and will this teacher be able to understand how to help me accomplish my goals.
