I am a retired marketing executive with a Masters and Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University, and I have a real passion for teaching. This past year I tutored 6th and 7th Grade ESL students as part of the Illinois Tutoring Initiative. The Illinois Tutoring Initiative was a program funded by the state of Illinois and the federal government to provide students who fell behind during the pandemic with critical extra learning support. We made great progress in reading comprehension and writing and had a lot of fun doing it. My students developed a real love for reading and improved their writing skills which was an important goal for all of us. I get to know each student individually and develop learning techniques and programs designed for each student based on their goals. Parental feedback is important and will be incorporated to strengthen each student’s program. My goal as a tutor is for each student to see tangible results and to feel a sense of self-empowerment and improved self-confidence. Each student should feel that learning is fun and exciting!
