I was a high school math teacher for sixteen years. I work with each student based upon his/her level and what level she/he needs to attain. I meet students where they are and then fill in the gaps to get them to where they need to be. Once a student is comfortable with their math ability, their anxiety in math classes is greatly reduced. Although my focus has been concentrated in high school, I have also worked with younger children and adults of all ages.
I love math, so I love it when the light bulb lights up and my students have the slightest smile when they realize that they understand how to do a certain problem.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For younger students, I will initially work with the parent to assess what the parent feels their student is struggling with. However, no matter what the age, I will eventually have conversations with the student on what that particular student feels he/she does or does not understand. My philosophy is that I am there to help the student and I want to make sure the student realizes that I want them to succeed. In order for the student to succeed, there has to a level of comfort and trust that is achieved by getting to know one another.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Education. I taught high school math for 16 years in multi-cultural environments, including both a suburban and urban settings. Even prior to obtaining my degree, I tutored in both the private sector and at a tutoring program I started at our church.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Currently, my base pricing is $50 per hour for one-on-one online tutoring session. Group rates are quoted on an individual rate.
How did you get started teaching?
As a math teacher, I watch the struggles of those students who are having trouble grasping the concepts of math. Since childhood, I have always been the one who played teacher and it seemed natural that any degree I would get while in college would include teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with every type of student, from suburban to urban, gifted to the diverse learner. In addition, my experience also includes adult learners.
