Navin Tyle Tutoring
About
My primary goal is to teach so that the student is sucessful. I first try to understand what are the areas of improvement for the student and then provide one-on-one tutoring to help in those areas. I've been teaching Math/Science/ACT/SAT through a concept-based approach, how to apply the concepts to word problems using a systematic step-by-step approach, and how to improve your problem-solving skills in the process. This result-oriented program offers customized tutoring, both for individuals and small groups of up to four students. Guided learning saves students' valuable time. The subjects currently offered are the following: Regular, Honors and AP-level Physics, Maths and Chemistry, ACT and SAT.
I enjoying working with students and helping them understand the subject matter by reinforcing concepts and doing problems. In school, they don't get enough time to apply the concepts or to ask about where they went wrong. In one-on-one tutoring, I spent more time on individual needs, so that the students feel more confident.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If you are interested in obtaining tutoring from me, please contact me by phone or email. We will have a call/meeting and go over the goals and needs of the student. Then we can set up the first tutoring session and a regular tutoring schedule in order to meet the goal.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned my Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. I was a national topper in Physics at High School level, and am an expert in STEM subjects, including Math, Chemistry and Physics. I worked in the telecommunications industry for 30 years and am now retired. I have also taught math and science subjects at the college-level in New Jersey. I am focused on tutoring high school and middle school students in Maths, Chemistry and Physics as well as ACT/SAT Test Prep at all levels in High School.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
One on one tutoring is normally $40/hour ($50/hour for Test Prep including materials) if the student comes to my house or meets at the Naperville 95th Street Library. Group tutoring can be at a lower rate based on number of students in the group.
How did you get started teaching?
I worked in the telecommunications industry and at the same time taught math and science subjects at the college-level in New Jersey. Sometime back, my daughter was taking Honors Physics and needed some help. Some of her friends also needed help, so I started offering tutoring on the weekends. In the past 3 years, I have tutored over 25 students in various subjects in Math, Physics, Chemistry and Test Prep.
What types of students have you worked with?
High School or Middle School Students taking Regular/Honors/AP Maths (Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra 1 and 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus), Chemistry and Physics and HS/Middle School students taking ACT/SAT test for college admissions or to get into Project Arrow etc. I have also tutored a few College students for Calculus and Physics.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently worked with a middle school student who needed to take SAT-Math test in order to get into a program for gifted students. She was very bright, but at that stage had not taken Geometry, Algebra 2 or Trigonometry in school. I worked with her for a total of 20 contact hours over 5 weeks to prepare her for the test. The results of the test have not been received yet, but she is more confident of taking on the more advanced Maths that she will be taking in upcoming years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
The customer should articulate their need by understanding what the student needs and try to match that need with the provider. Also be careful if a provider is willing to guarantee certain results. Results will be achieved by mutual effort and there is no single approach that will work for all students. For example, in SAT/ACT Test Prep, there are many providers who work in a class room or group setting which is suitable for many students who need general review of the entire subject area. If your student needs one-on-one tutoring because they need to fill-in gaps in knowledge or if they learn better with a dedicated tutor, then a provider like me can be more suitable for the student.
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
1. A few things to think about are:
1. 1. Does the student need help with the whole subject matter or specific aspects/topics?
2. 2. What is the student’s learning style and will the provider meet that style?
3. 3. How good the student at test taking (vs. doing homework etc.). The provider should address the specific areas where improvement is needed.
