I have been an elementary school teacher and private tutor for nearly 18 years. I enjoy working with children, either one on one or in small groups. Private tutoring can focus on a student's individual talents and challenges. It is essential to pinpoint and clear up any confusion or barriers that are blocking a student's comprehension in any particular area of study. Once this is addressed, he or she will improve and move forward with greater success.
I love working with kids. I love seeing their faces brighten, when they really "get it", and are excited about learning. I also feel tremendous satisfaction, when I can help a student overcome an area where they were struggling. It is rewarding to watch a student's confidence grow over the time we spend together because of the hard work on both our parts.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It's extremely important to develop a rapport with both the student and their parents. I assess where students are academically, and focus on the barriers that are preventing comprehension. Then I utilize a step by step approach to improve the fundamental skills needed to fully understand the material. Once this happens, a student will improve and have the skills to grasp the next concept.
