Whether it was my 3 year old sister at that time, or the neighborhood kids, I would always be ‘tutoring’ someone. Finally, when I was a freshman, I had the opportunity to work at Mathnasium as a volunteer.
In high school, I was given the opportunity to volunteer at my old middle school as part of the Dare 2 Dream program. This service provided tutoring to females part of the minority population. It was a really formative experience, because I worked one on one with these girls and got to know them on an academic and personal level. I also worked at the local church with students ranging from elementary to high school, helping them with their homework and studying for tests.
Currently, I am a calculus tutor and an ACT/SAT tutor. As a calculus tutor I provide individual and small group tutoring on a weekly basis, and serve as a personal resource for students regarding study skills and help improve their academic achievements. As an ACT/SAT tutor I tutor students for the ACT/SAT at local underprivileged high schools.
