About
At Laura George Consulting, LLC, our small team of expert tutors provides customized, one-on-one ACT and SAT tutoring, executive functioning tutoring, and AP and SAT Subject Test tutoring in select subjects for students in the Northern and NW Chicago suburbs in our Lincolnshire and Barrington office locations. We take an individualized approach to developing the tutoring plan for each student so that we can equip them with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence to reach their full potential.
In addition, I specialize in helping students brainstorm topics, develop, and strengthen their college essays, complete all aspects of their applications, and prepare for interviews. I am joined in this work by two excellent essay coaches. Within the college application consulting process, my fellow essay coaches and I help lead students through an organic process that includes brainstorming topics that will showcase who they are, leading them step by step through the development of their essays, and finally editing and polishing their final drafts.
I am an experienced writer with professional training, and I have a background in copywriting, PR, marketing, and advertising. I also served as a member of the Admissions Committee during my two years as a full-time student at the Kellogg School of Management. My other two essay coaches are a former attorney and a freelance writer, and both have experience with the college essay development process.
I founded Get It Write Consulting in 2006. After ten years, I began to focus on expanding my business to serve a greater number of clients. In March 2016, therefore, I incorporated my business as Laura George Consulting, LLC. Over the past few years, I have added a small group of phenomenal tutors to my team who each have an educational background and extensive teaching/tutoring experience in their subject matter. We are proud of our customized approach to each student and honored to have the opportunity to empower so many students in the N/NW Chicago suburbs to reach their full potential in the test prep process and identify and gain admission to their best fit colleges.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our goal is to empower students to realize their full potential and achieve acceptance to their ideal colleges, and I have personally pursued this passion for over 15 years. My team and I enjoy getting to know students so that we can provide customized ACT/SAT tutoring and help them tap into their unique, authentic voices when writing college application essays. Our ability to connect with young adults and first-hand knowledge of the parameters by which schools evaluate applicants make my colleagues and I ideally suited to partner with students as they navigate their college application journeys.
We advise that students take a diagnostic ACT and SAT (we administer an actual retired version of the tests) to ascertain both how the student feels about each test and how he or she initially scores. I personally analyze the results for each student and recommend focusing on preparing for one of the two tests.
We customize our tutoring to meet the needs of each individual student with whom we work. Our tutors are subject matter specialists, and students will work with the same tutor consistenly thorughout an entire subject or subjects. In total, each student will work with two to three tutors - one tutor for English and Reading, one for Math and one for Science. Some of our tutors also teach both Math and Science.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Duke University cum laude with a B.A. in psychology, and I later earned an MBA with a concentration in marketing from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. I served as a member of the Admissions Committee during my two years as a full-time student at Kellogg and read and reviewed hundreds of applications throughout my tenure. I am, therefore, very well informed about the qualities colleges are seeking in top candidates and highly skilled in advising students on how to craft excellent essays and develop solid applications. I have found that the college application process fundamentally aligns with the MBA process, and thus I have successfully transferred these insights to my college admissions clients. I am also a professionally trained standardized test tutor, and I have tutored individual students for over 10 years. I have personally trained each of my expert tutors in my methodology.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We offer packages of varying numbers of tutoring sessions, practice tests, test reviews, and books and materials that incorporate discounted rates, and I recommend one of these pacakges after diagnostic testing. We also have hourly only rates.
How did you get started teaching?
I was always a good standardized test taker, and when my older children were young, I answered an ad to join a small tutoring company. After training with them and teaching in a high school setting, I began fielding requests to tutor individual students. I really enjoy connecting with students and helping them find the best way to reach their full potential, so I moved to individual tutoring 10 years ago and have tutored hundreds of students over the past decade.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with all types of students, including those with IEPs/504 plans, those with timing/processing issues, and gifted students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
When a mom whose son had attended tutoring classes at school, but could not get out of the teens for his score on the ACT texted me a photograph of her son's acceptance packet from college and told me this had only been possible because of me, I felt truly gratified (after working with me, he scored in the 20s). That is why we do what we do.
