Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first step is to get to know the person. It helps to know a bit about who they are and how they learn. Most of the time just talking with them gives useful information. If I need more detailed data I can use assessment processes. My processes are not always like standardized testing. I am trying to discover the area that is providing the challenge to learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration
Masters Degree in Teaching
Masters Degree in Educational Administration
I spent 16 years as a classroom instructor in South Suburban school districts. I have worked with all ages from 3rd grade to adult education.
How did you get started teaching?
After I received my Bachelors Degree my employer promoted me to the inside sales rep. team. I spent 4 years working with that team when the company merged with another company I lost my job. A friend of mine recommended that I try Substitute Teaching until I find another job. I step into the classroom and I loved it. I like working with the students and sharing my encouragement , knowledge and love.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Try to identify what areas are challenging you.
Have samples of your work if possible
Think about who you are, what you like and what helps you learn.
Ask questions so you can learn more about the teacher and hear/see their knowledge.
Talk to anyone your are interested in hiring in person. Your first session should be focused on making sure you and that person can work well together.
