Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start by taking time to learn about my new student. What they like, what they don't like, stuff like that. Then I turn my questions over to math and see what experience they have with math. That way I can tailor the tutoring specifically to that student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
• A senior in college for a degree in Math Education
• 3 semesters of tutoring experience
• 1/2 a semester of hosting online tutoring
• Camp Counselor
• Past swim team coach
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a flat $20/hr although I am willing to work out discounts for long term students
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience with all age groups! I have worked with kids as young as 8 year olds in my camp counseloing position although that is about having fun, not much math happening. I have conducted swim lessons for kids of 10 years of age and coached swimmers of ages 12 - 14. Finally I have tutored underclassmen college students in calculus and algebra.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students need to be trained to think for themselves and exhaust their thinking capacity first when a tutor or teacher isn't around. That is something that I like to work on with my students as the ultimate goal is for students to become independent, competent adults!
But of course when a teacher or tutor is around, ask every single question that pops into your mind!
