About

My name is Maria Pineda. I ́m a Colombian writer with a major in Literature and a minor in Arts from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia plus an MFA in Screenwriting. I am a Spanish tutor for students all ages. My classes are not only focused on sharpening linguistic skills but teaching students about the hispanic culture and history, this way they can immerse more in the language.

I like guiding my students in the path of achieving their own bilingual goals: inspiring them, working closely with them, getting to know their needs, strenghts and weaknesses more.

Maria has been helping my daughter for past few months. She’s very methodical ,flexible with topics we request, and easy to learn from. My daughter finds sessions with Maria very helpful and I would recommend her to others 👍

I have been taking Spanish lessons with María twice a week for the past seven months now, and she is FANTASTIC! I studied Spanish on and off for several years, but decided to get serious about learning the language when my now-husband (who is from Ecuador) proposed to me!!!
My goal is to be fluent eventually, and with María as my teacher, I am confident that I will get there. María is an absolute professional, and clearly puts in a ton of effort into organizing each lesson. She does a great job of both challenging & supporting me. My grammar, comprehension, listening, and pronunciation have all improved immensely under Marías instruction, and I would highly recommend her to anyone who is serious about learning Spanish!

Maria is an awesome tutor! She has been helping me with my Spanish for several months and I feel that I have made much more progress since working with her. I like that she balances grammar lessons with authentic reading and listening practice. She is always consistent in keeping our meeting times and has been flexible when Ive needed her to be a couple of times. I feel that Maria packs a lot of listening and practice into our 1-hour sessions. I leave each session feeling very motivated to continue getting better each day. I have had several Spanish tutors, but Maria is the one I am definitely sticking with!

Maria has been wonderful! I was learning Spanish by myself, and I hit a point where I was not improving. I needed to start speaking with people, and I did not have the confidence. I wasn’t sure what the right bridge was so I reached out and found a tutor. Finding the right tutor for me is so important, as it has to fee relevant and interesting for me to continue learning. When I found Maria, I believe it was a great fit. Her style is beyond that of a traditional classroom, and she takes Spanish from multiple contexts to give you perspective. What she has taught me, I have been able to use in actual situations! Even days when I am tired, I am surprised how much I have retained. When something seems too difficult, she is good at gauging when to pull back.
As always, Spanish takes lots of practice and diligence! But it helps to have someone that motivates you and keeps things fresh. I definitely recommend Maria as a teacher!

    Frequently asked questions

I usually teach two classes per week, one class focused on just grammar and the other class focused on conversation and listening.

I have more than 10 years of experience as a teacher.

My rate per 1 hour of class (60 minutes) is $25.

At a pre-school back in my country: Colombia.

All sorts of types, children, college kids and adults.

One of my best students recently told be he feels more confident with his spanish skills thanks to my method.

    Look for a holistic approach.

Students should ask themselves about their personal goals and then use the teacher as a guide to pursue them.
