Eloise's Spanish Tutoring
About
Greetings! My name is Eloise Orr and I am eager to be your Spanish tutor. I have been studying Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) since highschool. I majored in Spanish in college, and I was a bilingual teacher in Chicago Public Schools for over than ten years. I also taught for one year in Sevlille, Spain. I resigned from teaching in order to pursue a new career. I am currently a graduate student working on my second masters degree in Speech Language Pathology. I have never done on-line tutoring before, but I have an affinity for education.
I have travled to many different Spanish-speaking countries (Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Panamá). I'm friendly, hardworking, and efficient. Below are a list of my credentials. I hope to be of service you!
2003 - B.A. Spanish from University of Illinois @ Urbana
2010 - M.S.Ed Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University
2013 - Illinois Professional Educator License with endorsements in: Bilingual Education (Spanish) and Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)
2008-2018 - Bilingual Teacher in Chicago Public Schools
2016 - Present - M.H.S. Speech Language Pathology at Governors State University (expected graduation May 2020)
I love when I can see the "light bulb come on," when a student finally grasps a concept they could not previously understand. As an educator, there is no greater joy than knowing you helped someone learn.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to begin by learning about the students' strengths and areas of needed improvement. I also like to learn about the students' interests so they may be incorporated into lessons.
I meet students where they are and try my best to incorporate their areas of strength to build up their areas of weakness.
I administer weekly quizzes (created by me) to monitor the student's progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a current Professional Educator License in the State of Illinois, and was an elementary school teacher for Chicago Public Schools for over ten years. During that ten years, I attended numerous professional development sessions, weekly grade-level meetings, and earned a Master of Science degree in education with a focus in bilingual education.
I also taught English to students and faculty at IES Velázquez in Seville, Spain for the 2006-2007 academic year.
