About
I'm not a "On this day in 1879 such and such happened." That's not history...that's reading an almanac. I focus on collectivizing events and demonstrate "why" and "how" something happened...not just the "who, what and where."
I love working with students who come to me saying "I hate history and I never do well on history exams." I made it interesting and fun and not just a course "to get through." I think the 2500+ students I've had over the past 35 years would agree.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask what period they are at in this history courses and see what they're thoughts are...I'll focus on one small thing they find interesting and start there by explaining what came before that and why it got to that point
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am ABD (all but dissertation) in American History (Colonial to the Present) with minor fields in Civil War/Reconstruction, Mexico and Latin America and History of Asia. I've taught courses in all of these subject areas both at National Louis and Columbia College in Chicago.
