French Language/Literature Tutoring

About

Learning languages is one of my favorite things to do, especially French. It can be an exciting and deeply rewarding experience but also frustrating at times when you are still learning to acclimate your ear and your tongue to the new sounds and vocabulary and grammar rules. Learning a language is one of those activities where you can visibly (and audibly) experience yourself progressing by how much more you can say and understand. I love working with students to figure out their goals, what they want to work on, need help with, how they learn best and how I can facilitate that. I like having a mix of grammar lessons, new vocabulary, and sharing French songs, useful websites, and articles. In addition, I have studied French literature so can help those who are just starting out or need help with literature courses at the university level.

I have been studying French for over ten years. I tutored younger students starting in high school. I placed in the top ten on the National French Exam multiple times throughout high school. I have experience preparing for and taking the AP French Exam. I have worked as a language and teaching assistant at the University of Chicago where I held conversation sessions with students from all levels of French. I love helping students learn and practice a new aspect of French grammar, quizzing them on new vocab, helping them perfect their pronunciation, and seeing them make progress in their communication and listening comprehension. I love helping students learn more about the culture and introducing them to books, websites, and music that will help them immerse themselves in the culture even more and become fellow Francophiles like myself! :)

Frequently asked questions

I like to do an initial consult with a student to get to know them, their level of French, what they need help with and want to work on, and how they learn best. This will help both of us create a plan for future sessions. I usually like having a mix of grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, quizzing in each session unless there is something specific the student wants to target.

I have a B.A. in French. I have worked as a language and teaching assistant at the University of Chicago.
