Sophia's Tutoring
About
Hello! My name is Sophia and I am a licensed special education teacher currently working on the south side of Chicago. I have taught general education class as well as more intensive classes for students with disabilities. I specialize in teaching Reading, Literature, and Social Studies. I offer tutoring in the humanities as well more intensive reading interventions if necessary. I look forward to helping you reach out goals academically and to grow as a student.
I have developed courses and taught in the following subjects: Multicultural Literature, Classical Literature, and basic reading skills. I am incredibly data driven and have proven success as my students had the highest reading growth across the entire network, as measured by their performance on the PSAT and SAT.
I have a masters degree in special education and have 4 years of experience as a licensed special education teacher and case manager. As a special education teacher, I have proven success in using accommodations to best support my students' needs.
For the past 3 years, I have developed and taught a Civics course to 9th-12th graders. My course is aligned to ISBE Civics standards as well as to Teaching Tolerance's Social Justice standards. Additionally, I have a degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan. I also have real world experience working within the government as a former Congressional intern, volunteer on multiple campaigns, as well as working for BallotReady.
I look forward to connecting with you and your families! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
