Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I will get a diagnostic baseline of the student's current skill level. Then, we will discuss the goals for the student and personalize a plan that will help the student reach this goal through improving his or her skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a secondary English educator. I have taught, tutored with private companies, and then independently for 5+ years. I have a Bachelor's degree in English Education, and am half way through my Master's degree in the same content.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically charge $50/hr.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a passion for English, and decided to pursue teaching when I, myself, was a junior in high school. Every year since then, through my education and career, I have only grown to value my choice more and more.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages from a wide variety of backgrounds. My current school is a competitive, private, college preparatory school, so that is my most familiar demographic. I have extensive experience with ACT tutoring and college essays, as I have taught juniors and seniors for the past 4+ years.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should assess what they are looking to accomplish. Essentially, what is the end goal? Are they trying to learn a lifelong skill? Earn an A in a class? Be admitted to a certain college? When the goal is clear, the path to get there becomes much clearer, as well.
