About

Think history is boring? Then you just haven't learned it in the right way! There are many different ways to look at history (we call these "lenses"), and how you choose to look at it will change the way you experience it. What matters to you? What sparks your interest? If you have trouble getting into the material, try finding a new approach that can hold your attention. I'm here to talk you through that process, whether it be for a specific historical event or your study of history in general. The same can be applied with literature and almost any course of study. I'll take the time to break down your assignments and relearn with you while trying to connect the content to your own experiences and interests.

I grew up in a small town in Upstate New York and graduated top of my class in high school, balancing my passion for academics with my passion for the performing arts, diving into my history classes while also writing music and musicals. I attended Columbia University in New York City and took a few years to work in retail before moving to Chicago, where I resumed studies at DePaul University and transitioned to a career in hospitality. However, teaching has always been one of my greatest passions, whether it be leading a class discussion or engaging in one-on-one mentoring. Though history is my specialty (my junior thesis was on the historical treatment of Marie Antoinette in first-edition English-translation memoirs in the post-French Revolution era), I have a fondness for classical literature and can provide tutoring in almost all general subjects including writing.

I consider myself a lifelong learner, in more than just an academic context. I've learned some of the greatest lessons outside of the classroom, in conversations with both close friends and complete strangers. I've had experience working in many different industries, from retail to hospitality to fitness and back again. In working with people you learn skills that will apply to every facet of your life, and that's why I love sharing what I've learned and experienced. I grow from every interaction I have and I hope I might make such a difference in the lives of others as well.

Frequently asked questions

I want to get to know the student a bit before diving into the content. What are your interests, hobbies, favorite (and least favorite subjects)? Once we know about each other, we can discuss our expectations for working together. Am I helping you to complete specific assignments? Are you looking for a general summary of the material? Are you refreshing for a test or for your own personal knowledge? Then we will plan our course of action and start working with the material. If tutoring for a class, we will use your materials and readings as the base, but I may provide additional resources that I think might help us along the way.

I begun my studies at Columbia University in New York City. Originally registered as a Political Science major, I changed to Creative Writing. I was passionate about my Core classes, including Literature Humanities, a survey of Western literary masterpieces. I took courses in Latin American History and Earth Science among other subjects. After moving to Chicago I transferred to DePaul University as a history major. My Junior Year thesis focused on the treatment of Marie Antoinette in first-edition English-translated memoirs following her execution.

As I am relatively new to tutoring, I have some flexibility based on your needs. Generally I begin at $25/hour.
