Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I like to get to know the student. I will learn about the student academically and as an individual so I can make our tutoring lessons interesting for the student. I will then begin to plan based on where the student needs support, and build on that. I will monitor the student's progress throughout and adjust my plans accordingly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with a bachelor's degre in early childhood education. I have been teaching or tutoring in some capacity since I was a sophomore in high school.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$60-$100/lesson depending on what needs to be accomplished.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring in 2010 when I was a sophmore in high school. That is when I really realized my love for helping students grow and learn. In college, I majored in education and have been teaching for two years post-grad.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students with differing learning disabilities, students that have come from difficulut living situations, students with extremely supportive family, and anything in between!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently helped a student of mine go from saying "I can't read" and giving up before even trying, to having this student gain the confidence to raise her hand to read aloud for her small group, and do so with accuracy!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think it is important to find someone who wants to connect with the student. Students will be more willing to learn from you if you are willing to put in the time and effort to get to know them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is an area you would like to grow in? Is there a time during the school day you feel anxious or uncomfortable? Why do you think that is? What do you want to tell me about yourself before we begin?
