Learning With Lily
About
Hello! I'm Lily.
I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry from UIUC and 8+ years of industry experience. I can tutor in chemistry, biology, and mathematics.
I apply the Montessori method of learning, tailoring lessons to the individual student, and working through what works best for them. Are you a visual learner, and need a clear example? Or do you think more abstractly, and need conceptual problems? However you learn best, we can figure it out together.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Please send me an email or message detailing what you would like to work on, what you are struggling with, and how you like to learn. For example, if you need help memorizing structures, and flashcards help you, I can come prepared.
Hopefully by our first session I will have a good understanding of what you need help with and we can dive right in! However, if you think you need more time to figure out your best learning style, I can help with that too. We will work at your own pace.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry and 8+ years of experience in a lab. I have experience in education using the Montessori methods and have tutored for about 4 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard rate is $60/hour plus cost of materials if I need to provide them.
How did you get started teaching?
I tutored as a teaching assistant my freshman year of college though senior year, and have taught many lab assistants.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with middle school students up to college-level chemists.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they are an educator, not just an expert in their field.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What helps you learn best? Do you require structure and schedule, or a more freeform method of learning? A mix of both? Try to get to the root of what is stumping you and we can work through it together!
