I always tell my students to relax and do not worry.I start by saying,"How many of you dislike word problems".Many respond indicating they don't.This is the answer I expect.Then I will tell them about how I disliked word problems until I discovered the factor-label system.This generally relaxes the student.Next we start on very simple. problems and advance from there.
