In Leonardo Tutoring we are passionate about helping others reach their full potential, and guiding them along a pathway to success.
For over five years our experience includes, but is not limited to, teaching English in South Korea, leading environmental science classes with the YMCA, and tutoring students at the Boys and Girls Clubs in their afterschool program.
Our knowledge and experience provides us with the tools to assist in subjects such as:
- English Language, Literature, Reading, and Composition
- Elementary Reading, Writing, Science, History, and Math
- English as a Second Language
- Movement and Fitness (Including Remote Coaching)
We are open to additional subjects, so please feel free to ask. If we are unable to assist in any way, we will be honest and communicate our limitations.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We like to set up a preliminary session to determine needs and goals. If both parties feel that it is a good fit, we will set up a study plan.
This plan will be based on whether the goal is long term or short term, and will determine the length and number of sessions per week.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Esther has earned her Bachelor's degree in English and holds certifications in TESL/TEFL/TESOL, and a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM. She has worked abroad in South Korea and locally with afterschool programs.
Shawn has earned his Bachleor's degree in Sociology and a minor in Classics. He has worked multiple YMCAs in leading outdoor education lessins in environmental science, team building, and leadership skills.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Usual fee is $20.00 per session.
We will refund this fee if the initial session determines that we are not a good fit.
How did you get started teaching?
Esther has always had a love for teaching others. She has worked with a variety of ages through teaching English in South Korea, tutoring students at home and with the Boys and Girls Clubs, leading outdoor classes with the YMCA, and even leading fitness classes with local recreation facilities.
Shawn has worked with YMCA camps for years, and developed a passion for leading and teaching others in outdoor enviornmental classes, leadership, and life skills.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with students ranging in age from two years of age through adulthood.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We are happy to say that we are recently married, as of June 2019, and are enjoying our life journey together!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Search for someone you feel that you can work with. Be open and honest about yourself and your needs.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I want in a tutor?
What do I need in a tutor?
Do my needs and wants align, or does one outweigh the other?
What should I communicate to my tutor (i.e. I need a five minute break mid-session, I learn best when shown what to do, I like to do things as I am being shown, I have trouble asking for help, Sometimes when I am frustrated I give up, etc.)?
