Get Smarter With Sharafuddin
About
Hi! My name is Evan Sharafuddin and I am a Chemical Engineering student who loves learning! I have a strong background in many science classes, from math to chemistry. I've found that comprehending the underworkings of a concept makes learning more memorable and rewarding than having a superficial understanding, and this is my philosophy when helping my students as well. I look forward to working with you!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I believe it is important that the student and teacher get to know each other. Not only does it make things less awkward, but asking questions on preferred ways of learning can make tutoring sessions more productive and useful!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently working towards a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.
I have taken all calculus courses and am currently enrolled in differential equations. I am happy to teach anything from algebra to antiderivatives!
I can code in Java and also am knowledgeable with basic data structures and algorithms. I love computer science and would love to help with introductory Java-based coding classes!
I am currently taking General Chemistry and Physics. I've learned topics from total wavefunctions to circular motion. Physics is my favorite subject and I love chemistry as well!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am happy to discuss pricing, but will typically charge $20 per hour.
Also, if a student is ever dissatisfied with an initial session, I will offer a complete refund.
What types of students have you worked with?
Admittedly, I am new to tutoring. However, I have lots of experience working with others and helping my classmates when they need it. A lot of times my classmates just want to get through a homework assignment and want me to send answers, but I always insist on explaining how a problem works and walking them through it rather than giving the answer outright. I look forward to applying this experience to tutoring others in a more formal setting!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who has an adequate background of the topic the student seeks help with. Also, look for someone who seems passionate about the material they teach. In my experience as a student, having teachers who are excited about their course content makes learning much more engaging and enjoyable. They are more likely to go out of their way to answer questions as well!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I believe it is most helpful when students have a homework set or a few problems that they are struggling with ready. If not that, then it is also helpful to have a few questions or topics in mind.
