Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by having them show me their ability so that I can gauge their ability, and then move from there. After that I start with the very basics of the subject or area of study so as to create a strong basis. Once the basics are up to a higher level some of the more advanced areas can be touched on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As for tutoring I do not have formal training. I have helped other classmates/team mates improve their skills and understanding. I have helped out coaching goalies in soccer (I was also one myself). With language I have been speaking the language for years, and helped classmates, or those younger than me with assignments.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I would take it on a case to case basis. However as a standard, usually around 15-20 dollars an hour
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching through my old job at a pool. I was a swim lessons instructor. That is my only paid job for teaching, but through the years I have helped some other people with grasping the content at least a little.
What types of students have you worked with?
I worked primarily with younger kids when I was teaching swim lessons. It ranged from shy kids who would barely talk, all the way to kids who where roudy and bombastic. When it comes to the older ages, I have helped out with supervising at different groups I have been in.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently had the chance to travel to Costa Rica with a class of mine. During the week we where there we lived with host stay families, and travel around the country. It allowed us to further our understanding of the language, and learn the culture somewhat as well.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
As long as you are willing to put the time in to learn something, or to get better at it. You can do so. Never give up on it if it is a passion of yours.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I feel that a student should always ask a teacher about their needs if they see it fit. The only thing I would ask is that the student try atleast once before coming with questions. If however they feel they cannot fulfill the need on their own, or answer the question on their own the first time then it is okay to ask the teacher right away. I would still prefer atleast one attempt.
