Sailing To A's Tutoring
About
I am a Graduate Engineering Student at the University of Alabama double majoring in Environmental Engineering and Dance Performance with a minor in mathematics. I have 8 years of tutoring under my belt. Now in college, I tutor at-risk students in local elementary and middle schools in both math and English. I also currently am a paid tutor for college athletes here at the University of Alabama.
I have experience tutoring students with delayed processing disorders, ADHD and dyslexia. I love finding ways to take material and finding new ways to teach it for students who may not understand it when it's taught conventionally. The main reason I love to tutor is because I've seen the effect that feeling "dumb" can have one kids growing up. So being able to break down that thought and getting a student to feel more confident in themselves and their abilities, not only helps their grades but helps them in life.
I have always loved math, so it has always been something I have enjoyed putting time into. That being said, I was not the naturally brilliant student that could pick things up effortlessly. There were topics that I had to put some work into to fully grasp. This makes me an even because I have had to teach myself different ways to do things. I am patient and very willing to learn how a student learns to best assist them in whatever subject they are struggling in.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I want to do is to get to know a student and make them feel comfortable. That is my number 1 target. I want a student to feel comfortable asking me questions and for them to understand that our time together can be beneficial and FUN. A student is going to learn best in an environment where they feel comfortable and understoood, and that is my number 1 goal is all of my lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
