About

I have three years of tutoring experience, helping children primarily with reading. While I tutor, I am actively pursuing a bachelor's in elementary education with an endorsement in English/Language Arts and Reading.

I tutor Kindergarten through 8th grade and English as a Second Language students in reading and writing skills. I will help your child master letter sounds, letter names, phonics, phoneme blending, phoneme segmenting, fluency, reading comprehension, and vocabulary.

I provide general English tutoring and grammar for 3rd-9th grade. I can improve your child's composition, essay, and spelling skills. Your child will learn parts of speech, capitalization, punctuation, and diagraming sentences. I can prep you or your child for AP and Honours English exams as well as the language portion of the ACT or SAT.

I also provide support for students in need of improvement with their handwriting, in both cursive and manuscript forms. I will help your child with everything from basic letter formation to paragraph writing.

Recently, I completed an associate's degree in Paralegal Studies.

I love the relationships I develop with my students, and I enjoy seeing them grow as readers and writers.

My employment history includes several years of experience in elementary education. Not only do I care about my education, I am passionate about the education of others. I worked as an AmeriCorps Reading tutor in the Ames Community School District. In this role, I tutored kindergarten-3rd graders exclusively in reading. I helped children master reading comprehension, fluency, phoneme segmenting, phoneme blending, letter names, letter sounds, and blending words. I progress monitored all of these children and assessed their eligibility for the reading program. During this time I also began work as a freelance reading ESL tutor. I began teaching children overseas, whose native language is Chinese, to read English. I continue to teach Chinese children to this day. Shortly after working as an Americorps tutor, I began work in the Ames Community schools as a special education assistant. In this role, I helped kindergarten-3rd grade children meet their academic goals. Many of these children had diagnoses of ASD and ADHD. My support consisted of helping children in all academic subjects and supporting them with their struggles with the classroom environment. I was a special education assistant for about two years. I tutored for Educational Tutorial Services for one year, an organization that meets the tutoring needs of immigrant youth, children in foster care, and children in hospitals. I provide homework support for these students with supplemental reading and math. I have been tutoring for about three years overall now, helping children who are ESL learners, special needs, or generally below their grade level in reading. I am currently actively persuing a bachelor's in elementary education with an endorsement in English/Language Arts and Reading. Recently, I completed my associate's degree in Paralegal Studies.

My standard pricing is $25 for an hour and $15 for half an hour.

I have tutored students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade who are struggling with reading, specifically with skills such as letter sounds, letter names, phoneme blending, phoneme segmenting, blending words, fluency, reading speed, and reading comprehension. I have also tutored kindergarten students in reading English who are learning English as a second language. My work experience also includes working as a special education assistant in the Ames Community Schools for kindergarten through 5th grade, during which I assist them with reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Many of the students I help with have been diagnosed with autism. I also tutored for Educational Tutorial Services, an organization that fulfills the tutoring needs of immigrant youth, children in foster care, and children in hospitals. I provide homework support for these students as well as supplemental reading and mathematics.
