Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical session includes reviewing what was covered over the past week and specific issues the student is having. I then will go in-depth on whatever problem areas are present and will use homework or other practice questions to reinforce the topic. I typically let the students work through the problems themselves while providing as little guidance as possible and then give feedback on how they went about solving the problem.
My rate includes an hour-long session and 24/7 access to me to ask questions whenever they come up throughout the week. I am available for virtual sessions and in-person if you would prefer as long as proper precautions are taken (Mask Required). I am able to cover multiple subjects if needed for no extra charge.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in Biology and a master's degree in Public Policy. I have years of experience teaching at the middle school, high school, and college level.
Throughout undergraduate school, I would teach after school science classes and after undergrad, I went on to be a long term substitute teacher. During this time I also created a hands-on after school science program for the local YMCA.
Once I entered graduate school at Georgia State, I became a Graduate Teaching Assistant, teaching Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biology, Economics, and Environmental Science.

How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching during my undergraduate career doing afterschool science programs as a way to make extra money while going to school. I quickly fell in love with teaching and began substitute teaching after graduating from The University of Akron. I continued to teach once entering graduate school and now that I have graduated I am looking to continue teaching in my spare time.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught grades 6-12 and college level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had the honor of writing a letter of recommendation for one of my environmental science students so they could get a competitive internship with the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have a teaching style you enjoy. These subjects can be boring if not thought properly and having a teaching style that is engaging can really help you to enjoy the topic.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What areas do I struggle with the most and what page in my textbook or notes is it on?
